John was born to Samuel and Agnes (Cassidy) Lawrence. He graduated from high school in Brooklyn and attended college in New York. He married Madelyn (Graves) Lawrence on Feb. 8, 1947. She preceded him in death in 2007 after 60 years of marriage.
He proudly served in the Marine Corps from 1943 until he retired as Major in 1959. John was subsequently employed by Litton Industries in Los Angeles, CA for over 40 years. He served in multiple executive finance positions at their Data Systems Division, and was ultimately named an Officer of the Corporation.
He was a member of Order of the Caribou, Marine Corps Memorial Association and St. Catherine's Catholic Church.
John loved his family and enjoyed cooking and politics.
He is survived by his sons, James Lawrence and Matthew Lawrence; daughters Margaret Westberg and Elizabeth Dufek; a sister, Rita Stapleton; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, April 14th at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Cathlamet, WA.
