Ervin died November 20, 2010 in Lubbock's Covenant Lakeside Hospital. He was born in Tacoma, WA on September 25, 1939 and was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Ronald Kring of Portland, Oregon. Ervin graduated in 1958 from Benson Polytechnic High School in Portland, OR. He married Sandra Gilliam in 1963 and had one son, Kelly in 1972. Ervin served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1962 stationed at Dyess AFB in Abilene. He attended Texas Tech University before joining Litton Industries. Ervin was a Quality Engineer at Goulds Pumps in Lubbock until he retired. He dedicated many years teaching Lubbock's 4-H youth in rifle shooting, and he taught Hunter Education classes for the Texas Parks and Wildlife. Ervin was a Baptist and member of Oakwood Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; son, Kelly and wife Melanie; grandson, Thatcher of Anna; step-brother, Tim Garland and family of Dallas, OR; and in-laws, Betty Carter of Coleman and James E. Gilliam of Abilene; and one nephew, Dale Gilliam of Ft. Worth.

Funeral services for Ervin L. Kring, 71, of Lubbock were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the W.W. Rix Chapel. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until service time. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Coleman, TX.
