 Obituary:
Robert D. French, 74, of Madison, Alabama, son of Dean W. & Emma Lynetta (Carmichael) French, was born December 4, 1933 in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He passed away Monday, October 27, 2008 at his home. Robert grew up in Guthrie Center and graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1952. He then attended Iowa State for 2 years and in 1954, he entered the United States Army. Robert married June Bennett on March 30, 1954 at the Methodist Church in Guthrie Center. He was a Sergeant First Class and attended radar school while in the army. Robert later taught Nike Acquisition Radar until his discharged from the Army in 1957. He then attended and graduated from University of Iowa in 1959 with a degree in Physics. Robert’s first job was with Remington Rand Corporation for 2 years and he transferred to California and later transferred to the LA area where he worked for Litton Industries for 35 years until his retirement. While working in California, he attended California State University at Northridge for his Master’s Degree in Math Education. They moved to Alabama when his son and wife transferred there. They enjoyed traveling around their city and state. Robert is survived by his wife June French of Madison, AL, three sons; Robert Dean, Jr. of Madison, AL, Scott Bennett of Cedar Rapids, David Paul of Glendale, CA, four grandchildren, a sister Ruth Newell of Guthrie Center, a brother James French of Georgetown, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents.
